About The Whatevermen

The Whatevermen is a tightly-knit cyberterrorist group with a classical approach to freedom and liberty, and a strong foothold in old-fashioned morals. We consist of broadcasters and memembers of the media. Our long-term goals include educating the public about the state of big business in this country, and how it thrives on keeping the common man dumb, so that the common man can revolt against his oppressors, guaranteeing a much more sweeping effect than the efforts of the greatest terrorism group could provide.

The short-term goals of The Whatevermen are focused on educating the public about the true crimes hidden between the lines of the current debate involving Napster and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Do we believe that Napster is aiding and abetting crime? Absolutely. But we also believe that the RIAA has been doing it for much longer, and may simply be concerned that Napster is being a copycat.

As such, the first wave of attacks The Whatevermen are unleashing is an excersise in "Guerilla Education." We are recording 60- to 120-second Public-Service-Announcement style spots, encoding them as 128kbps MP3 files, and making them available on Napster. Before making them available, however, we are renaming the files to contain artists and songs the RIAA has shoved down peoples' throats -- Brintey Spears, Eminem, Sisqo, and yes, Metallica.

This virtually guarantees people will download them. What's better, the Napster application automatically shares the folder on your computer where your downloaded files are stored. This means as soon as one person unknowingly downloads a spot from one of The Whatevermen, it is available from their computer as well, increasing our distribution exponentially every day.

We also encourage our members to creatively enhance the filenames, changing some of them to B-side or rare tracks, or appending "(Live)" to the end of the filename.

The charter of The Whatevermen is that you as a music listener, consumer, and member of the human race, should be educated about the things around you and then entrusted to make your own decisions. The Whatevermen strongly suggest you do not take our opinions, or anyone else's, and make them your own. You should carefully research and invetigate an issue and make an informed decision.

Our spots portray this charter. If you have a Napster account and would like to help, please visit our What You Can Do to Help page and join in the real Digital Music Revolution!
